Conceptual oilfield modelling information systems in development at Gazprom Neft

Gazprom Neft has begun implementation of its EAD:ISKAD (“ERA:ISKRA”) information system, designed to support the selection of optimum integrated solutions in oilfield and field infrastructure development. This unique software product is already in use, with an oil transportation scheme for a new group of fields in the Nadym-Pur-Tazovsky District of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug having been developed with its support.* Thanks to EAD:ISKAD, specialists have been able to determine optimum solutions in organising an appropriate oil pipeline system. This new digital tool is also already being utilised in infrastructure development at this asset.

The new EAD:ISKAD information system has been developed with the involvement of Gazpromneft-Razvitiye (Gazpromneft-Development) and the Gazprom Neft Science and Technology Centre (NTC), its name being an abbreviation of “Integrated System for Conceptual Asset Development”, and the programme itself being part of Gazprom Neft’s “Electronic Asset Development (EAD)” electronic product range. The programme helps select the most economically viable solution in asset development and infrastructure construction, at the conceptual modelling stage, with the new system managing collaboration between specialists on issues including well construction, surface infrastructure, engineering costs, and project economics. Gazprom Neft experts involved in developing conceptual models now have a tool for simultaneous collaborative work. Depending on their role, everyone involved will have access to models, and will be able to correct and advise on these. The software is operated through a web interface. Users with access will be able to log in to the programme from any computer within the company. According to developers, it’s now possible to talk not just about improving speed and efficiency in conceptual modelling, but also about improving quality, through the number of options under consideration.

The new group of fields in the Nadym-Pur-Tazovsky district of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug includes the Severo-Samburgskoye and Tazovskoye oilfields, as well as the En-Yakhinskoye and Pestsovoye “fringe” fields. Pilot operations are currently ongoing at these fields, as well as drilling of initial development wells. Gazpromneft-Razvitiye is operator on developing these fields.

Mars Khasanov, General Director of the Gazprom Neft Science and Technology Centre, commented: “Electronic asset development is one of the priorities in Gazprom Neft’s Technology Strategy. Introducing the single and inclusive EAD:ISKAD digital platform makes effective engagement in conceptual engineering possible, by developing detailed models for field infrastructure. Thanks to the collective work of specialists from different areas, conceptual engineering means we can evaluate projects from idea to implementation, optimising all necessary processes. This is now a priority area in the work of Gazprom Neft’s Science and Technology Centre. Our subsidiaries are keen to keep improving efficiency in their work, and so the Science and Technology Centre, together with Gazpromneft-Razvitiye, is developing and implementing new technological solutions.”

Gazprom Neft’s “Electronic Asset Development (EAD)” (“ERA”) project is developing IT initiatives in all areas of exploration and production, including geological prospecting, geology, drilling, development, production, and field construction. Under implementation since 2012, the EAD initiative became part of the company’s Technology Strategy in 2014, and is now a key area of focus. The company’s technology strategy was recently updated in line with new production and business objectives of various Gazprom Neft subsidiaries. More than 30 projects are currently in hand under the EAD initiative.
