IATA International Aviation Fuel Forum takes place in Russia for the first time

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) International Aviation Fuel Forum has taken place in Saint Petersburg, Russia for the first time, with Gazprom Neft acting as General Partner. A record number of participants attended the event, which brought together more than 650 delegates, from 61 countries. Fifty seven of the world’s leading air carriers were represented, and more than 100 companies supplying aviation fuel and equipment for aircraft refuelling.

Forum participants examined issues concerning the implementation of inclusive international standards in aviation refuelling, the use of digital data-transfer technologies in the aviation refuelling industry, and the outlook for market development in respect of oil products and the development of trading platforms in various parts of the world. Gazprom Neft specialists presented at commercial and technical sessions of the Forum.

IATA is the industry’s most widely recognised organisation, setting standards in aviation refuelling, flight safety, ground handling operations, and billing settlements. The IATA Aviation Fuel Forum is one of the industry’s best-attended and most representative professional events, bringing together the key players on the international aviation refuelling market, every year.

Alexander Dyukov, CEO, Gazprom Neft, commented: “Gazprom Neft’s aviation fuel business is developing rapidly. We are determined to double sales volumes as soon as 2025, reaching 4.5 million tonnes. We also plan to further strengthen our position on the international market and join the world’s top-20 most significant aviation fuel operators. We are convinced that new technologies are the key factor in improving efficiency, including in aviation refuelling. It is for precisely that reason that we are, together with the industry community, proactively working on the development and implementation of digital data exchange standards that can be applied by aviation fuel operators and airlines around the world. We value our strategic partnership with IATA very highly, and place considerable importance on collaborating in the process of implementing global commercial and manufacturing solutions.”

Hermant Mistry, Director of Airports and Fuels, IATA, added: “We are delighted to have the opportunity of hosting the International Aviation Fuel Forum in St Petersburg, a city with a great history. Positive changes in the development of the aviation fuel supply market in this country — including the introduction of competitive pricing mechanisms and price transparency, the modernisation of airport refuelling infrastructure, and better technologies in aviation refuelling — played a key role in choosing Russia as a forum for this event.

The 74th International Aviation Fuel Forum in St Petersburg has proved one of the most successful to date, with more than 650 delegates taking part. Key outcomes of the Forum include the conclusion of an agreement between air carriers and oil industry representatives on developing a global programme for ensuring high quality standards in aviation refuelling at airports worldwide, and on supporting projects for the introduction of inclusive digital standards in accounting for refuelling operations. Government representatives and Russian aviation refuelling market participants also made clear their keenness to join in initiatives aimed at ensuring market competitiveness and transparency in pricing mechanisms and, together with airlines and aviation fuel operators, to consider increasing the profitability of aviation fuel supplies to airports in remote regions.

On behalf of IATA I would like to express my sincere thanks to Gazprom Neft and Gazpromneft-Aero for their unstinting support at all stages of organising and running this event, making the undoubted success of the Forum possible.”

Gazpromneft Aero is a subsidiary of Gazprom Neft. The company has been providing aircraft refuelling services and selling aviation fuel at airports since January 1, 2008. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is a non-governmental professional organisation with its headquarters in Montreal (Canada) and its European centre in Geneva (Switzerland).
