Journey from Comedy Stage to Senate Floor Filled with Drama and Laughs

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, May 16, 2017 /EINPresswire.com/ -- U. S. Senator Al Franken comes to Live Talks Los Angeles to discuss the unlikely campaign with an even more improbable ending that sent him to Washington, D. C. as Minnesota’s junior senator in 2008. Senator Franken appears on Saturday, July 8, 2017, 8:00pm at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, CA.

Sen. Franken’s new book "Al Franken, Giant of the Senate" traces his journey from an award-winning comedian who decides to run for office, and then discovers why award-winning comedians tend not to do that. His campaign ended in the closest outcome in history with an unprecedented eight-month recount saga. As the nation’s foremost progressive satirist, Franken wins a chance to serve in the U.S. Senate, and defying the low expectations of the pundit class, discovers he’s pretty good at it.

In this candid personal memoir, the honorable gentleman from Minnesota takes his army of loyal fans along with him from "Saturday Night Live" to the campaign trail, inside the halls of Congress, and behind the scenes of some of the most dramatic, and hilarious, moments of his new career in politics.

Senator Al Franken graduated from Harvard University. Before entering politics, he spent 37 years as a comedy writer, author, and radio talk show host and has taken part in seven USO tours, visiting our troops overseas in Germany, Bosnia, Kosovo, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait. Franken was first elected to the Senate in 2008 and re-elected in 2014. He's been married to his wife, Franni, for 41 years -- many of them happy. They have two children, Thomasin and Joe, and three grandchildren.
