Gazprom Neft’s Moscow Refinery improves refining efficiency in 2016
Gazprom Neft’s Moscow Refinery refined a total 10.7 million tonnes of oil in 2016, with production of light oil products increasing to 58.1 percent (a two-percent increase on 2015). Conversion rate at the refinery also showed an improvement on 2015, increasing from 72.6 percent to 75.8.
Production of diesel fuels increased by 1.8 percent to 2.1 million tonnes, also increasing as a proportion of the refinery’s total output, to 4.6 percent. Production of industrial bitumens for road coverings and construction increased by six percent, to 976,000 tonnes. Mazut production showed a significant decrease. Production of high-octane gasolines was maintained at 2015 levels, at 2.6 million tonnes.
Gazprom Neft Moscow Refinery CEO Arkady Egizarian commented: “Increasing production of marginal products last year in line with refining volumes has, obviously, increased the operational effectiveness of the Moscow Refinery. A better conversion ratio (refining depth) means lower expenditure on energy and production resources, as well as lower environmental impacts.”
Improving the conversion ratio and yield of light oil products, as well as improving the operational efficiency of Gazprom Neft refining assets, are key priorities in the company’s long-term strategic development in oil refining. Gazprom Neft has been implementing a major programme on the modernisation of its Moscow Refinery since 2011. Initiatives completed in 2011 — 2016 have allowed the refinery to switch to the full and exclusive production of Euro-5-standard diesel fuels and gasoline, as well as reducing environmental emissions by 50 percent. The core objective in modernising the Moscow Refinery has been to achieve the best performance of all Europe’s refineries in terms of technical and environmental performance.
