IT Governance delivers Europe’s first General Data Protection Regulation Practitioner qualification
This follows a report that suggests Europe will need at least 28,000 data protection officers (DPOs). Although the Regulation does not define the precise qualifications a DPO must hold, it does require that they have “expert knowledge of data protection law and practices”.
Alan Calder, the founder and chief executive officer of IT Governance, said: “Recent reports forecast an increasing demand for qualified staff to fulfil the role of data protection officer under the GDPR. To help individuals get a comprehensive understanding of the Regulation or fulfil the role of DPO, we have developed two GDPR training courses, with qualifications at Foundation and Practitioner level, both accredited by IBITGQ.”

To achieve a GDPR qualification, individuals will be required to attend either the one-day Certified GDPR Foundation (GDPR F) training course or the four-day Certified GDPR Practitioner (GDPR P) training course, and pass an exam to assess their mastery of the topic.
The GDPR Foundation training course is designed to provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the Regulation. The GDPR Practitioner training course covers the Regulation in greater depth, including implementation requirements, the necessary policies and procedures, as well as effective data security management, and is a vital qualification for the role of DPO. Both qualifications will help organisations to comply with the Regulation when it comes into force across the EU in May 2018.
