ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND, USA, August 4, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- In advance of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Longman & Van Grack attorney Adam Van Grack has been named the Chair of the Board of Directors of USA Canoe/Kayak. USA Canoe/Kayak manages and organizes the Olympic sports of Canoe Slalom and Canoe Sprint and the Paralympic Sport of Paracanoe for the United States. In this capacity as Chair, Mr. Van Grack will be exercising all ceremonial and representational functions for USA Canoe/Kayak at international races, events, and conferences. As Chair of USA Canoe/Kayak, Mr. Van Grack also will lead the Board of Directors during all meetings and operations while also serving as USA Canoe/Kayak’s corporate secretary to handle all functions usually required by that position under corporate law. Mr. Van Grack said that he is “thrilled” to help all of the “fantastic canoe and kayak athletes in the United States,” and that he “look[s] forward to great things for USA Canoe/Kayak in the coming months and years.”

As a member of the United States Olympic Committee, USA Canoe/Kayak is the national governing body for the Olympic sports of Canoe Sprint and Canoe Slalom as well as the Paralympic sport of Paracanoe. USA Canoe/Kayak is also the United States’ member of the International Canoe Federation and the Pan American Canoe Federation. Other sports sanctioned by USA Canoe/Kayak include Marathon, Surfski, Wildwater, Dragon Boat, Freestyle, Outrigger, Canoe Polo, Canoe Sailing and Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP). USA Canoe/Kayak offers paddlesports athletes the opportunity to win Olympic medals in up to sixteen events, the sixth most of any sport.

Mr. Van Grack has been serving as the Director of the Olympic Sport of Canoe Slalom for USA Canoe/Kayak since April of this past year and will continue to serving this capacity while also serving as Chair of USA Canoe/Kayak. The Slalom Director position also exists through USA Canoe/Kayak, the national governing body for the Olympic sports of Canoe Sprint and Canoe Slalom. As the sport’s Discipline Director, Adam Van Grack sits on the Board of Directors for USA Canoe/Kayak.

From 2009 through 2016, Mr. Van Grack was also been the Chairperson and President of Potomac Whitewater Racing Center (a U.S. Olympic Center of Excellence based in Bethesda, Maryland). Mr. Van Grack has been active within the Olympic sport of Canoe Slalom as both an athlete and administrator since 1991. Potomac Whitewater Racing Center recently issued a statement stating: “We wish Adam the very best luck leading the United States’ National Governing Body for Olympic and non-Olympic canoe and kayak sports, and we hope to continue to see Adam at our races.”
