Pioneering Developments in the Field of RNA: Interview Released with Advanced Cell Diagnostics
Advanced Cell Diagnostics (ADC) to sponsor SMi's 7th annual RNA Therapeutics conference when it returns to London next month
Event sponsors, Advanced Cell Diagnostics, is a leader in the emerging field of molecular pathology, developing cell and tissue based diagnostic tests for personalised medicine. In the run up to the show, SMi spoke to Europe’s Senior Director for Sales and Marketing, Dr Kai Wilkens, about pioneering developments in the field of RNA and his upcoming keynote presentation entitled: Single Copy Detection of Specific Transcripts in the Tissue.
Focusing on tissue specific assessment of efficacy and validation of RNAi approaches, Dr Wilkens will discuss key areas such as rapid biomarker development and validation; drug safety aspects and off-target effects in tissue samples; plus provide an A –Z guide in transferring from cell culture to animal models to clinical.
When asked about development in the field of RNA therapeutics he said:
“There have been many innovations and improvements in the field of drug delivery. In addition, chemical modifications of the RNA therapeutics in RNAi and synthetic mRNA therapy, addressed various aspects of stability, immunogenicity and delivery of the drugs. What is most amazing is the huge number of disease applications we see being worked on!”
On RNAscope®, ACD’s in situ hybridization assay, he commented:
“It now is possible to assess RNA therapeutics directly and in situ - with a simple and robust assay suitable for FFPE tissue samples as well as fresh-frozen ones. For mRNA therapeutics, the RNA drugs can be measured directly in cells and tissues. Within each tissue, the amount of mRNAs delivered to individual cells and cell types can be monitored and also checked for homogeneity. In RNAi approaches, the silencing effect on the target and/or other associated biomarkers can be looked at in the same specific and sensitive manner. This works smoothly across all pre-clinical animal models and beyond. In this sense RNAscope can facilitate the optimization of delivery methods, which is an on-going challenge in the field.”
The full interview and a preliminary list of attendees is available in the conference download centre.
