G20 summit sparks cyber attack fears
As Brisbane welcomes the G20 summit, one of the country’s spy agencies is warning Australian businesses to be on the alert for a wave of cyber attacks.
SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, November 14, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- As Brisbane welcomes the G20 summit this weekend, one of the country’s spy agencies is warning Australian businesses to be on the alert for a wave of cyber attacks. The Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) has warned that Australian networks have ‘become a more attractive target for cyber espionage and attack’ because of the country’s presidency of the G20 in 2014.Previous G20 summits have been affected by hacking: the French finance ministry fell victim to a cyber attack during the 2011 G20 Summit in Cannes, losing documents related to the French presidency.
Alan Calder, founder and executive chairman of IT Governance, says, “The international cyber threat landscape is increasing in complexity and severity on a daily basis, and high-profile data breaches are costing companies millions in damages and penalties. The threat of a data security incident – and its associated costs – is something all organisations will want to avoid. Australian organisations worried about the increased risk brought by the country’s presidency of the G20 should know that an ISO27001-compliant ISMS is the only credible solution to cyber threats.”
ISO27001 is the only standard to approach information security as an enterprise-wide concern. Addressing people and processes, as well as technological measures, ISO27001 provides all organisations, regardless of their size, sector or location, with a best-practice approach to securing their information assets. Accredited certification to the Standard is accepted globally as an indication of good cyber security.
To help Australian organisations implement ISO27001, IT Governance is offering the international information security community the special opportunity to spend half a day with globally recognised ISO27001 experts by attending an online workshop on 27 November 2014.
Cyber security fundamentals: an introduction to ISO27001 will be led by internationally renowned ISO27001 authorities Alan Calder and Steve Watkins, and will provide you with an understanding of the evolving cyber threat landscape and what you can do to counter the risks you face. This exclusive, practically-focused online workshop is aimed at senior-level information security professionals, CSOs and CIOs from any industry or sector, who are interested in obtaining more information about embarking on ISO27001 for the first time. Registration closes on November 17.
