WESTMINSTER , CA, UNITED STATES, August 23, 2014 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Ms. Senior California of America Pageant is proud to announce that Dr. Gayla Jackson from Moorpark was crowned Ms. Senior California 2014. She competed against 13 other contestants who came from all over California on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at the Rose Center Theater in Westminster, CA. The theme this year was “Encore!”; the women competed in interview, evening gown and talent competition as well as reciting their philosophy of life.First runner up went to Merilee Imamoto from Penn Valley; second runner up was Joyce Schumaker from San Diego; third runner up was Syni Champion from Sacramento and fourth runner up went to Sandra Erkus from Granada Hills. Erkus also took home the talent trophy with her award winning performance of the coloratura aria “The Doll Song” from Offenbach’s Tales of Hoffman; Sandra was dressed as a mechanical doll, and her performance was done in character.

As the 2014 Ms. Senior California queen, Jackson walked across the stage to accept the crown, marking her first steps on a journey that will take her from spotlight to spotlight representing the American woman 60 years of age and over who have reached the “Age of Elegance”. Jackson will receive an all-expense paid trip to Atlantic City to compete in the October 2014 Ms. Senior America Pageant.
Dr. Gayla Jackson started her career as a professional actress and toured all over Europe with the American Theater Company. She then earned two Masters Degrees in Education and Psychology and a Doctorate in Business Administration. She headed a successful international cable television management corporation and was named “Queen of Cable Television” by the National Cable Television Association. Her third career was with the Glendale Police Department as a psychotherapist working with gangs and troubled teens. Jackson is now heavily involved teaching parenting classes, providing psychotherapy to troubled families and leading a new restorative justice program for the Ventura County prison system. Jackson is 67 years young, has been married for nearly 4 years to her husband Joe, has one daughter and three step daughters and one granddaughter, and three step grandchildren. Gayla is heavily involved with various organizations: she does pro bono therapy for the Ventura County Youth Authority; also donates time to The Assistance League of Conejo Valley which helps women and impoverished children, and is an alumni of the National Charity League. She is also a member of the DAR (Daughters of the America Revolution). Jackson’s hobbies include raising orchids and traveling with her husband, Joe.
Each contestant competing in this year’s pageant either won a regional title or was first runner up in one of the seven preliminary pageants that were held around the State earlier this year. The Pageant is open to women who have reached the “Age of Elegance” - 60 years of age and up. The Pageant seeks to elevate Baby Boomer women as well as senior women, encouraging them to “stay vital and connected with life”, to be role models for their peers and younger generations.
