But any revolutionary invention needs to be patented. The U.S. Patent Office has asked John to separate the original John Device patent into 11 different categories. Crowdfunding earnings will be used to meet this requirement as well as finance the other patents that are needed. The United States patent decision, a TrackONE application, will be rendered within 12 months rather than the usual extended 36-month period of time. The cutting-edge technology of The John Device drove the international application to be accepted for early publication. The next round of patent information needs to be submitted by August 25, which is why the crowdfunding deadline is August 23.

John’s parents—mother Martha A. John, has a PhD in education from Stanford and father Floyd I. John, with a PhD from Purdue in mathematics—instilled in him a love of learning, and he acknowledges their contribution to his research. Building on the quote from the brilliant Sir Isaac Newton, who said, “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants,” John credits his parents for being the giants upon whose shoulders he stood and saw.
