Signed atthe 21st World Petroleum Congress, Moscow, the contract for construction ofthe first 54kilometres ofthe pipeline has been awarded toSpetsgazavtotrans. The remaining 41kilometres, asfar asthe connection point with the Zapolyarye-Purpe transportation network, will belaid byupstream engineering and construction specialists Velesstroy.
Construction will begin inlate 2014. The first oil deliveries via the pipeline (which has atotal capacity ofsix million tonnes per year) are anticipated inlate 2016, concurrent with the field going into production. Work iscurrently being undertaken toensure all necessary preparation for construction tocommence, including delivery ofequipment and materials.

The Messoyakh group offields include the Vostochno (Eastern) and Zapadno (Western) Messoyakhskoe acreages. Licences for both blocks are held byMessoyakhaneftegaz, jointly owned byGazprom Neft and Rosneft, inwhich both have anequal controlling interest. Gazprom Neft isoperator onthe project.
The fields, which were first discovered inthe 1980s, represent the northernmost known onshore deposits inRussia. The Messoyakhskoe fields are located inthe Gydan Peninsula, inthe Tazovsky district ofthe Yamalo-Nenetsk Autonomous Region, 340 kilometres north ofNovy Urengoy, inRussia’s arctic zone— aregion ofconsiderably underdeveloped infrastructure. Proven C1and C2reserves indicate 475 million tonnes ofoil and gas condensate, aswell asmore than 170 billion cubic metres ofgas.
