Cyber security threat found to be greater than natural disasters

A new survey revealed that 76% of respondents marked cyber security exploits as greater than, or equal to, the threat of a natural disaster.

BELGIUM, BENELUX, UNITED KINGDOM, September 5, 2013 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Belgium, Benelux, 30th August 2013 – A new survey conducted by Experian Data Breach Resolution and the Ponemon Institute revealed that 76% of respondents marked cyber security exploits as greater than, or equal to, the threat of a natural disaster.

Whilst only a third of companies are insured against data breaches, a growing number are exploring policies and best practices to increase their levels of cyber security. Efficient processes are key to implementing an effective cyber security strategy. Standards such as ISO 27001 and PAS 555 provide best practice guidelines that can be applied to any organisation, regardless of size or sector, helping mitigate the threat from cyber space.

Alan Calder, Founder and Executive Chairman of IT Governance (the cyber security solutions specialists), commented:

“It’s great that organisations are now recognising the real threat that cyber space poses. By acknowledging the threat, organisations can now react and put measures in place to mitigate the risk. The ISO 27001 and PAS 555 standards are perfect starting points for putting the groundwork in place for building an effective cyber security strategy.”
