The Advocate-Messenger is the result of a merger by two newspapers in 1940 – The Kentucky Advocate and The Danville Daily-Messenger. The paper was purchased by Schurz Communications in 1978. In 2016, Boone Newspapers, Inc., took ownership of the The Advocate-Messenger.
