The Columbia Press is owned by Clatsop County Media Services LLC, a small mom and pop company based in Warrenton, Oregon.
The Columbia Press was founded in Astoria in 1922 as a Finnish language newspaper serving the large population of Scandinavians who'd immigrated to the area.
By the 1940s, it was renamed and remade into a publication serving all of Clatsop County.
It was purchased by Hal and Edla Allen in 1962 and moved to Warrenton in 1978. They churned out newspapers on their own printing press for a quarter of a century.
Gary Nevan, a graduate of Western Washington University, purchased The Columbia Press from the Allens in 1988 and was its editor and publisher for nearly three decades, focusing on community news and, with his graphics artist wife, Trish, publishing special sections on senior issues and Bow Wow, news of interest to dog owners. They strengthened ties within the community by focusing on school news, police and fire and community events. The newspaper was purchased in January 2017 by Clatsop County Media Services, a partnership owned by Cindy Yingst and D.B. Lewis, a husband and wife team and longtime Warrenton residents. Cindy has more than 25 years of experience in the news business, having worked as a reporter and editor at The San Bernardino Sun in San Bernardino, Calif.; The Daily Astorian in Astoria, Ore.; and The Olympian in Olympia, Wash.
