Soon after Leland was founded as a town, a newspaper was started to keep the community informed on current events around the world. Finding any information on the earliest papers proved to be very difficult. Although there were brief articles in the Greenville paper in 1888 credited to the Leland Record and in 1889 credited to the Leland Times, the first Leland paper about which any information has been located is the Leland Enterprise which was founded by J.T.D. Kinnison in 1897. This paper was printed by the Democrat Times of Greenville.
