The Herald-Argus traces its ancestry back to Feb. 5, 1880, when the first issue of The Herald-Chronicle, a weekly newspaper, rolled off the press. This represented a merger of The Herald of 1867 (once in Westville) and The Chronicle of 1874. The merger resulted in the formation of The La Porte Printing Co.
