The Gazette family of newspapers began in July 2000 as three independent, privately owned publications. By popular request, in 2004, the Lakeside/Santee, Alpine and El Cajon Gazettes were combined into one, the East County Gazette. The Gazette employees are all East County residents. The owners, Debbie and David Norman, are life-time residents of East County. Born and raised in East County affords the Normans an edge to better understand the pulse of the community and meet its needs.
