Redding Record Searchlight
The John P. Scripps Newspaper Group published the first edition of the Redding Record Oct. 17, 1938. It quickly grew to become the community’s largest newspaper and in April 1941 acquired the Courier-Free Press and the morning Searchlight. It also acquired the weekly Shasta Courier, which had published since March 1852 in the historic community to Redding’s west. By 1952, all had been merged into a single afternoon daily newspaper, the Redding Record Searchlight.
