Project Description
This project will widen Kings Highway from Sandhill Boulevard to the DeSoto County line. The design and construction will replace the existing roadway with a new four-lane divided roadway, including protected turn lanes. Additional improvements include utility infrastructure upgrades, street lighting, a ten (10) foot multi-use path on the west side, and a six (6) foot pedestrian sidewalk on the east side of the roadway.

Project Impacts
Traffic Advisory – Kings Highway Traffic Pattern Change
Motorists are advised that the traffic pattern on Kings Highway has changed from the DeSoto County Line to Sandhill Boulevard as part of the ongoing roadway improvement project.
This traffic shift will affect southbound traffic entering Charlotte County through the Sandhill Boulevard intersection. This area has been reduced to a single lane.
Please use caution, follow posted traffic control devices, and remain alert for construction personnel and equipment.
Latest Updates
Installation of the new sanitary sewer force main along the east side of the project has been completed.
Installation of the new potable water main along the west side of the project is currently underway.
Construction of the concrete sheet piling for the perimeter berm of the new stormwater retention pond is also underway.
Florida Power & Light (FPL) and TECO Peoples Gas are on site, completing the relocation of their utility facilities within the project limits to accommodate the roadway and utility improvements.
Overall, construction activities continue to progress on schedule.
