Morrison Springs Advisory Group sets Public Meeting date

Morrison Springs Advisory Group to discuss Management Plan

at Public Meeting

Walton County, FL, 08/06/26 - The Walton County Board of County Commissioners reestablished the Morrison Springs Advisory Group on June 30, 2026, at their regularly scheduled BCC meeting.  The purpose of the advisory group is to review the proposed updates to the Morrison Springs Management Plan and proposed park improvements.

Morrison Springs is one of the most popular diving spots in northwest Florida and well-known throughout the southeast. This 161-acre park was acquired by the State of Florida in 2004 and has been leased to the County to maintain and preserve.  The highlight of the park is a 250-foot-diameter spring pool that produces an estimated 48 million gallons of crystal-clear water each day and has been recorded to produce up to 70 million gallons of water a day. Three cavities allow Morrison’s frigid water to surface from the underground aquifer. The deepest of these cavities, at approximately 300 feet in depth, eventually terminates in an underground chamber of unknown dimensions.

The Morrison Springs Park currently includes large boardwalks overlooking the springs, a diving dock and a boat ramp away from the diving location. Walton County is proposing new facility improvements to address user conflicts, including an additional boat launch to help separate motorized and non-motorized boat users.

Walton County Environmental staff will facilitate a public meeting for the Morrison Springs Advisory Group to discuss the Management Plan updates and proposed park improvements on Thursday, August 20, 2026, 10 a.m. to noon, CST at the Walton County Courthouse Board Room in DeFuniak Springs, 571 E Nelson Ave, DeFuniak Springs, Florida. The meeting is open to the public. Public comments on the management plan revisions are welcome at the meeting or may be submitted to morrisonsprings@mywaltonfl.gov until August 31, 2026.  All public comments will be included in the final management plan submitted to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Acquisition and Restoration Council (ARC).
