TDLR is Seeking Auctioneer Subject Matter Experts

TDLR is seeking Auctioneer Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to serve on our Examination Review Committee (ERC) and to assist our Education and Examination Division with examination review, maintenance, development, and creation. SMEs are tasked with ensuring the states’ examination for licensure upholds stringent standards and are continually updated by referencing current laws and rules.

If you are interested in becoming a SME, please complete the Examination Development Committee Application and send it in by June 8, 2026. Preferred qualifications include but are not limited to a minimum of 2 years of specialty experience in: Auctioneer Schooling and/or instruction, vehicle sales, charity, and estate sales. TDLR staff will review all eligible licensees and select the SMEs.

All SMEs receive training on their role and must sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). The SMEs duties, at a minimum, include the following:

  • Development of examination questions and answers.
  • Referencing laws and rules,
  • Reviewing or amending examination items for performance.
  • Traveling to Austin to participate in the ERC process.
