2025 Spring Litter Cleanup Program

This spring, Madison County’s 2025 Litter Cleanup Program filled all available spots with enthusiastic participation from local organizations. Groups from nonprofits, sports teams, civic clubs, and other community organizations worked hard to clean County roadsides. Their hard work keeps Madison County’s roadsides clean and supports their organizations.

Program Details

The Litter Cleanup Program allows local organizations to adopt sections of County-maintained roads. For each mile cleaned, groups earn $100 to support their activities and causes.

To participate, organizations must:

  • Be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit or an officially recognized local group, such as a sports team or civic club

  • Submit a W-9 form to the Finance Office

  • Attend an information meeting to review the assigned roads

  • Sign a legal participation waiver

  • Collect safety gear and cleanup supplies, including vests, litter sticks, and trash bags

  • Complete cleanup of their assigned road segment

  • Report the number of bags collected

  • Return cleanup materials to Madison County Solid Waste

Solid Waste staff assign road sections based on group size and capacity to ensure safe and effective cleanups.

The Importance of Roadside Litter Cleanup

Litter along roadsides threatens local wildlife, pollutes water sources, and diminishes the natural beauty of our community. The Litter Cleanup Program allows local groups to protect the environment while engaging residents in meaningful service. Each bag of litter collected helps improve public safety and preserves Madison County’s natural resources.

You Can Still Help

Although the Spring 2025 cleanup program has ended, individuals and groups can continue making a difference year-round. When picking up litter on your own, always wear bright or reflective clothing and inform someone of your location and planned route. Whenever possible, clean up with others to increase safety and visibility. Together, we can keep Madison County clean and preserve its natural beauty.
