National Treasury hosts virtual media workshop on Smart Meters Project, 3 Sept
The National Treasury invites members of the media to a virtual Smart Meters Project workshop that will provide an in-depth briefing on the funding and rollout of smart meters across municipalities.
The session aims to walk the media through the smart meters implementation process, provide updates on the number of municipalities approved to participate, share key achievements to date, and offer clarity on frequently asked questions.
The Smart Meters Project began on 1 November 2024, and to date, 19 municipalities have been approved to participate in the programme. The project was first introduced during the 2024 Budget Speech, where the Minister of Finance announced a R2 billion Smart Meters Grant to be rolled out over three years.
Media will have the opportunity to engage directly with Treasury officials to ensure accurate and informed reporting on the Smart Meters Project.
