Phoenix, AZ – The Governor’s Office is seeking qualified applicants to serve on the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission. 

The Arizona Criminal Justice Commission (ACJC) oversees critical public safety and criminal justice assistance in our state. They act as the State Administering Agency for criminal justice grants such as the Byrne Justice Assistance Grant program that helps fund law enforcement, prosecution, and crime prevention. ACJC also monitors the implementation of criminal justice legislation and coordinates the statewide effort to improve criminal justice information and data sharing. The Arizona Statistical Analysis Center operates out of ACJC, overseeing research about crime and criminal justice that informs the Commission’s statutorily required reports. Those who serve on the Commission are granted an unparalleled opportunity to contribute to meaningful, lasting criminal justice reform.

Those qualified to serve and who are committed to uplifting public safety and ensuring a fair and effective justice system for everyone are encouraged to apply for one of ACJC’s open positions. Current members are welcome to reapply to continue their vital work. Interested individuals should apply through the Boards and Commissions website. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis with initial review conducted by December 17, 2024.

The following positions are open:

• One police chief from a county with a population equal to or greater than 1.5 million persons

• One police chief from a county with a population equal to or greater than 800,000 persons but fewer than 1.5 million persons

• One police chief, one county sheriff and one county attorney from a county with a population under 800,000 persons;

• One law enforcement leader;

• One former judge;

• One mayor;

• One member of a county board of supervisors;

• One public defender;

• One victim advocate; and 

• One Chief Probation Officer
