IMSO joined forces today, 27 February 2024, with the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) and the Brazilian Maritime Operations and Protection of the Blue Amazon Command (COMPAAz) to deliver training to Search and Rescue Operators from 88 countries across the world on how to make better use of the Long-Range Identification and Tracking system (LRIT) to save lives at sea.

In his opening address Mr. Laurent Parenté, Director General of IMSO expressed his intention that this online training session would improve and strengthen the use of the LRIT system by Search and Rescue Operators in the future and help them in their critical mission to save lives at sea.

Both Ms. Maja Markovčić Kostelac, Executive Director of EMSA and Rear Admiral Pedro Augusto Bittencourt Heine of COMPAAz stressed the importance of the LRIT for Search and Rescue operations and expressed their gratitude to IMSO for hosting this event.
