Fish and Game closes fishing on the Snake River near Twin Falls

Idaho Fish and Game announced an emergency closure of all fishing in the Snake River from the Twin Falls hydroelectric dam downstream to the bridge crossing the river at Highway 46. This section of the river and numerous nearby waters have been closed to public access after invasive quagga mussels were recently detected in the river at Twin Falls. The fishing closure is set to expire Sept. 29.

Quagga mussels pose a major threat to Idaho. The invasive species can quickly spread and clog pipes that deliver water for drinking, energy, agriculture, recreation, and a variety of other uses. These mussels can negatively affect fish populations and wildlife habitat.

This is an evolving situation, and people should check for updates at agri.idaho.gov, and people can sign up for email updates about the quagga mussel situation.
