I See My Future in Informatics

Organised by the Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) School of Computing and Technology (SCT) and Famagusta Women's Center Association (MAKAMER), a seminar will be held for girls studying in high schools under the theme "I See My Future in Informatics" within the scope of the "Girls in Informatics and Technology (BITEK) Project".  The event, to be held for the second time this year, will take place on Thursday, 27 April, 2023, between 09:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. at the Activity Center. At the seminar, Vodafone Turkey Big Data and Artificial Intelligence Unit Manager Şeniz Gaye Ayata will come together with the students and deliver a presentation on “The Journey of a Female Cypriot Engineer to Artificial Intelligence Leadership: Şeniz Gayde Ayata”. The event will be held in memory of the Champion Angels who lost their lives in the earthquake disaster in Turkey on 6 February, 2023.

In order to increase the number of women working in the field of information and communication technologies, the seminar will be held within the scope of "International Girls in ICT Day", observed on the fourth Thursday of April every year since 2011 by the International Telecommunication Union. Girls from grades 10-11-12 will attend the event from high schools across the country.

The seminar, which will be held with the aim of encouraging girls to study in the fields of information and technology and to enter the sector for a career in technology, will focus on career opportunities and developments in the information and communication sector. Closing the digital gap between the genders is a meaningful part of the struggle for gender equality. Based on the fact that the future is shaped by informatics and technology, the BITEK project aims to ensure that the girls of the new generation are trained in the fields of informatics and technology and develop an interest towards these fields. The most important purpose of the BITEK project is to inform girls, especially those at the phase of choosing a profession, to increase their awareness about the subject and to direct them towards the aforesaid professions.
