The Classy Awards honor the impact of innovative nonprofits.

WASHINGTON, DC, UNITED STATES, April 13, 2023/EINPresswire.com/ -- Classy, a giving platform enabling nonprofits to connect supporters with causes they care about, has named Solar Sister a finalist for the 2023 Classy Awards. Launched in 2009, The Classy Awards shine a spotlight on the innovative work nonprofits are implementing around the globe. Today, we're proud to share that Solar Sister's 'Pathway to Prosperity' Program has been recognized for its innovative approach to combat energy poverty, the climate crisis, and gender inequality with a team of female entrepreneurs.

Solar Sister has fought energy poverty across sub-Saharan Africa by recruiting, training, and supporting women entrepreneurs as they create clean energy distribution businesses. Solar Sister Entrepreneurs do more than sell clean energy products; they cultivate one another's business expertise, reinvest profits in activities that improve family health and education, and engage in global advocacy on climate issues. No matter age, skillset, or life stage, Solar Sister works with women at their unique starting points and prioritizes building confidence in their business abilities.

Solar Sister's 'Pathway to Prosperity' is filled with the most successful interventions to help women advance through each stage of their entrepreneurial journey, ultimately enabling them to reach lifelong stability and prosperity.

Solar Sister's innovation brings a unique gender lens to the energy poverty issue. They recruit, train, and support women entrepreneurs in a comprehensive support ecosystem, including twelve+ months of curriculum and ongoing mentorship. The training program benefits women in their solar business and community leadership skills. The mentorship ensures entrepreneurs can build sustainable distribution businesses in areas the market alone can't support, optimizing impact at the lowest cost.

In May 2022, Solar Sister combined operations in Nigeria and Tanzania with the LivelyHoods' network in Kenya. The merger expands Solar Sister's three pillars, energy access, gender equity, and climate justice, into the Kenyan market and is essential to reach its goal of eradicating energy poverty across the continent. The merger will continue Solar Sister's mission of providing an energy and climate solution that improves women's health, education, and income in off-grid communities.

This year, 11 Classy Awards will be distributed, including the People's Choice Award, which is determined by public vote. Supporters can vote for Solar Sister from April 6-April 25, 2023. Winners will be announced live on June 7 at the Collaborative by Classy conference in Philadelphia, PA.
