United Against Hate Workshop, March 2

On Thursday, March 2, the University of Rhode Island Department of Public Safety, in collaboration with the Tri-County Community Action Agency, will host a workshop to discuss effective strategies to prevent and respond to hate crimes.

The event, “United Against Hate: Identifying, Reporting, and Preventing Acts of Hate,” will be held from 8:45 a.m to 12:00 p.m. in the Rainville Ballroom of the URI Memorial Union, 50 Lower College Road. The event will feature opening remarks from URI President Marc Parlange and Police Chief Michael Jagoda as well as presentations from the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI Hate Crimes Unit. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions of the panel.

Federal and local officials will discuss strategies to prevent acts of hate and work to help community members learn how to identify hate crimes and understand the importance of reporting.
