Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) announced that the annual EMU Spring Festival events are not taking place this year due to the earthquake disasters that occurred On Monday, 6 February, 2023, strucking Pazarcık and Elbistan districts of Kahramanmaraş province of the Republic of Turkey with 7.7 and 7.6 magnitudes as announced by the Turkish Republic Ministry of Interior Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).

In a statement released by the EMU Rector’s Office, it was expressed that EMU is in deep sorrow because of the disaster which took lives of tens of thousands of people. It was also announced that the Sound Set Festival event to be held on 7 April 2023, 10th EMU with Folk Songs event to be held on 13 April 2023, the 11th Rock N’ EMU event to be held on 12 May 2023 and 26th EMU Spring Festival to be held on 17-20 May 2023 are cancelled.

It was mentioned in the statement that the Book Fair event which was being planned to be held at March as a part of the Book Gatherings with EMU 2023 events, is also postponed to a further date.
