Euro becomes Moldova’s main remittance currency
The euro has become Moldova’s main remittance currency, the EU Delegation to Moldova reports, citing the latest data from the National Bank.
According to these data, about three out of four remittances from abroad in favour of Moldovan individuals are made in euros. The rest are mainly in US Dollars.
While in 2015 every fourth transfer was made in Russian roubles, now only 0.1% of transfers are made in this currency.
Overall, remittances amounted to the equivalent of USD 491.77 million in the third quarter of 2022. By comparison, during the same period in 2015, remittances stood at USD 294.01 million.
