CFO Patronis Statement on Passage of Property Exemption Bill from House State Affairs Committee

2/17/2022

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Today, Florida Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis issued the following statement on the House State Affairs Committee’s favorable hearing of House Bill 1563, Homestead Property Tax Exemptions for Classroom Teachers, Law Enforcement Officers, Firefighters, Child Welfare Professionals and Servicemembers, sponsored by Representative Tomkow. This legislation works to ensure Florida’s first responders receive additional homestead tax exemptions.

CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “My mission as Florida’s Chief Financial and State Fire Marshal is to make life better for Florida’s first responders. I tell people all the time that we don’t have a good economy in our state without a robust safety net of first responders working 24/7/365. Our first responders have our backs at a moment’s notice, and we must always have theirs. With rising inflation impacting every Florida household, this is a much needed tax cut for our frontline workers who dedicate themselves every day to protecting Florida communities. I want to thank Representative Tomkow for her hard work on getting House Bill 1563 passed in committee today and thank you to Senator Brodeur for his work on the Senate companion.”
