CFO Patronis Applauds Gov. DeSantis 57-Day 2022 Gulf Red Snapper Recreational Season

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis applauded Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission for extending the 2022 Gulf Red Snapper recreational fishing season to 57 days, the longest season since the state assumed management of red snapper. The 2022 season will include both a summer and fall season.

CFO Jimmy Patronis said, “Fishing is the heartbeat of Florida and I’m excited to see the Gulf Red Snapper Season extended to a record 57 days this year. This means even more time for Floridians and visitors to enjoy all of the fun that goes along with being on the water in Florida - The Fishing Capital of the World. Recreational fishing is also a major economic driver, generating roughly $13.8 billion for Florida’s economy and supporting an estimated 120,000 jobs. Thank you to Governor DeSantis and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission for their support of recreational fishing in our great state. I enourage everyone to get outdoors this year and try to catch your limit of amazing Gulf Red Snapper!”

The 45-day summer season will begin on June 17 and continue through July 31. The 12-day fall season is the longest fall season since the beginning of state management and spans the following dates:
• October 8-9
• October 15-16
• October 22-23
• November 11-13 (Veteran’s Day Weekend)
• November 25-27 (Weekend after Thanksgiving)
