Digital Forensics and ISO 27001 essential weapon against cyber crime
/EINPresswire.com/IT Governance Ltd, the global leader in ISO 27001 and information security training, consultancy, books and toolkits, has announced that delegates will save £100 if they book onto the next Digital Forensics Foundation training course on 13th September in London (www.itgovernance.co.uk/products/2519). The course is designed to deliver a comprehensive introduction to digital forensics and help organisations develop an effective forensic readiness plan.
An understanding of digital forensics is essential to ensuring the protection of an organisation in the event of a security breach that involves the loss of confidential information. It is also a key element in implementing and maintaining an effective information security management system (ISMS) as specified by the ISO 27001 standard.
Alan Calder, CEO of IT Governance explains, "Forensic readiness has been defined as the ability to collect, preserve and analyse digital evidence that can be effectively used in any legal matter, security investigation and disciplinary action in an employment tribunal or court of law. While a forensic readiness policy is mandatory for UK government departments, many commercial organisations do not have the knowledge or preparation to cope with a serious security incident."
Control A.13.2.3 of the ISO 27001 standard requires that, in the event of a security incident any evidence presented in a criminal or civil action against an individual or company must fully conform to all relevant legislation. While this requirement is fairly obvious, it is crucial to the success of the legal process that the digital evidence is collected as accurately and reliably as possible. The best practice as defined in clause 13.2.3 of the ISO 27002 Code of Practice recommends the preparation of an investigation procedure which includes the forensic collection of digital evidence together with the originals of all documents and witness details. All such plans are major contributors to ensuring conformance to Clause 7.3 of the ISO 27001 Standard on preventative action which is of course essential to the maintenance of the ISMS continual process improvement.
The Digital Forensics Foundation training course (www.itgovernance.co.uk/products/2519) provides a complete introduction to digital forensics. It is held in London on 13th September and is led by a highly qualified computer forensics specialist and expert witness. Currently a Chief Investigator in private practice working on both civil and criminal enquiries, the course tutor has been trained to an advanced level in the use of current digital forensic methodologies and tools. Delegates will save £100 if they book onto the course today.
