San Francisco, California (CaymanMama.com) — In a move that would make Google a strong competition in the wireless market against Apple’s iPhone, Google is having its employees test a new mobile device which is run on their Android operating system.

In a Google blog post published on Saturday, the technology giant said the device blends hardware constructed an unnamed partner with its proprietary Android software.

This software is a critical element in Google’s attempt to make its search engine easily accessible on cellular devices as are on PCs.

Google employees all over the world are testing out the mobile device so that they can “experiment with new mobile features and capabilities,” and offer feedback on the new technology, said Mario Queiroz, VP of product management, on the blog.

According to the AP, “The Wall Street Journal, citing unnamed sources, reported Sunday that Google plans to sell the phone directly to consumers, instead of through a wireless carrier. Such a move would mean Google would go head-to-head with Apple’s iPhone and Research in Motion’s Blackberry, as well as current makers of Android phones.”
