October 20, 2009 (FinancialWire) — Flowers Foods, Inc. (NYSE: FLO) has acquired tortilla maker Leo’s Foods, Inc. Terms were not disclosed.

Ft. Worth, Texas-based Leos posts annual sales of around $30 million. The company is family-owned, with one tortilla facility in Ft. Worth and 230 employees.

Leo’s makes a line of flour and corn tortillas and tortilla chips that are sold to foodservice and institutional customers nationwide under Leo’s, Juarez, and customer brands.

The acquired business will operate as a subsidiary of Flowers Bakeries under its current name and will continue to serve existing customers. Owners Leo and Sule Jimenez said they plan to retire following the sale. Jaime Garcia will remain Leo’s general manager.

Thomasville, Georgia-based Flowers Foods is a producer and marketer of packaged bakery foods for retail and foodservice customers. Flowers operates 39 bakeries that produce a range of bakery products sold through a direct-store-delivery network that encompasses the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic, and Southwest as well as various markets in California and Nevada, and nationwide through other delivery systems.

The company’s brands include Nature’s Own, Whitewheat, Cobblestone Mill, Blue Bird, and  Freshley’s.
