During the visit, the Russian Deputy Prime Minister met with Prime Minister of the Republic of Tajikistan Kokhir Rasulzoda. They discussed the current status of Russian-Tajik trade and economic cooperation and its prospects. The discussion also focused on expanding cooperation in education and science, the industry, the energy sector, transport, the digital economy, banking operations, investment, customs regulation and agriculture.

The Russian officials praised the construction of five Russian-language schools in Dushanbe, Khujand, Bokhtar, Kulob and Tursunzoda. Each school will accommodate 1,200 children. The schools’ curricula, which will be based on the best Russian methodologies, meet the requirements of Tajikistan’s education system.

“In August 2020, when we met with President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, we had an in-depth discussion on higher and secondary education and the importance of Russian language studies. He devotes great attention to this matter. Today, we have seen how the construction is proceeding here in Dushanbe and in four other cities of the republic. All these schools are being built simultaneously with the support of the Government of the Russian Federation. The Republic of Tajikistan has allotted good land plots, and the schools are conveniently located. We hope that 6,000 pupils, from the 1st through 11th grades, will be able to study at these schools from 1 September 2022. These are big numbers. For Russia, this is the first large-scale project of this type. We are doing our best to provide children with high-quality teaching aids and to install up-to-date equipment in classrooms. Everyone realises that this matter is highly important and responsible, and that it brings our countries closer together,” Alexei Overchuk said.

The status of Russian teachers and the newly-built schools’ principles of operation are formalised by two intergovernmental agreements, signed during the visit by representatives of the Russian Federation’s Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tajikistan.
