Miami-Dade Director of Nursing Crowned National Nurse Leader of the Year

Steven Missaggia, RN, CDONA of Palmetto Subacute Care Center in Miami, Fla.

Palmetto Subacute Care Center Administration

MIAMI, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, July 30, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Palmetto Subacute Care Center’s Director of Nursing, Steven Missaggia, has been crowned the 2021 National Nurse Leader of the Year by the National Association of Directors of Nursing Administration in Long-Term Care. The coveted award follows Palmetto Subacute Care Center’s most recent Deficiency-Free Department of Health Survey.

The National Nurse Leader of the Year award recognizes and honors nursing leadership for their exceptional contributions to the field of nursing, and their commitment, dedication, and overall compassion for their fellow team members and patients.

Missaggia graduated in 1981 from Rutgers University with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and advanced psychology. While actively pursuing his doctorate degree in clinical psychology, he joined an in-patient psychiatric care team where he discovered his deep passion for nursing. Missaggia pursued his nursing degree at the Mountainside Hospital School of Nursing and began his tenured career as a telemetry nurse. Shortly thereafter, he transitioned to the field of subacute care and in-patient rehabilitation, a relatively new and innovative field at that time.

In 1998, Missaggia accepted his first Director of Nursing position and has since guided his teams to seven perfect Deficiency-Free Department of Health Surveys, one of long-term care’s most highly-regarded achievements.

“I feel blessed each and every day because I truly love what I do,” shared Missagia. “Nursing has been very good to me; all I’ve ever wanted to do was to be in the business of helping others,” he continued.

The 2021 National Nurse Leader of the Year award comes amidst one of the most challenging periods for healthcare workers and first responders in modern history. The COVID-19 pandemic has especially impacted long-term and post-acute care facilities throughout the United States due to the edlerly and immunocompromised populations that are cared for by these providers.

In response to how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted and changed healthcare workers, Missaggia replied, “The COVID-19 pandemic has made us here at Palmetto Subacute stronger in so many ways, as it allowed us to learn together, grow together, and progress together; we are of one mind and one heart here at Palmetto Subacute,” Missaggia concluded.

At 62-years-of-age, Missaggia adds yet another coveted award to his lifetime achievements in clinical leadership and gerontological medicine. Missaggia will be accepting this incredible award at the 2021 NADONA National Conference (National Association of Directors of Nursing Administration), the largest annual meeting of nurse executives working in long-term and post-acute care.

“It is with great pride that I accept this recognition alongside our incredible team and administration here at Palmetto Subacute Care Center,” offered Missaggia. “I am so thankful for our administrator, Monica, and CareRite Centers who makes all things possible and always has the health and wellbeing of our patients at the forefront of every decision,” Missaggia shared.

“We are so proud of Steven,” Monica Calonge began, Administrator of Palmetto Subacute Care Center. “He gives his heart and soul to his patients and staff every single day; he makes the world a better place,” Calonge continued. “Steven is incredibly deserving of this prestigious award.”
