Gazprom Neft invests more than ₽3 billion in a technological complex at its Industrial Innovations Centre in St Petersburg

Gazprom Neft is to establish a new industrial-technologies pilot-testing and laboratory complex at the St Petersburg Special Economic Zone (SEZ), with this infrastructure being housed in the SEZ’s Novoorlovskaya Innovation Centre, currently under construction. The company’s planned investment in the complex is expected to exceed ₽3 billion by 2023.

The laboratory and pilot-facilities complex will be the main site for testing and rolling-out new technologies developed by Gazprom Neft’s Industrial Innovations Technology Centre. Future infrastructure will provide 150 new jobs for specialists in finding, developing and deploying innovative continuous-production technologies and resources.

“The Industrial Innovations Technology Centre being established in St Petersburg marks the core of an R&D and manufacturing cluster directed at developing ‘green’ solutions as efficiently as possible. That means — technologies in environmentally-friendly hydrogen and biofuel production, alternative energy, plastic recycling and carbon-capture use and storage (CCUS). This future laboratory and pilot-facilities complex will make it possible to develop solutions not just much needed at the company’s production facilities, but also offering considerable potential for being rolled-out across the industry.”

“One of St Petersburg’s major advantages has always been the considerable potential of its highly qualified personnel — which, together with a favourable investment climate — has, in the fullness of time, allowed it to develop an extremely significant pharmaceutical cluster, now based at facilities within the St Petersburg SEZ. SEZ residents have invested more than ₽61 billion in their projects, generating cumulative revenues of more than ₽163 billion and paying more than ₽25 billion in taxes — including more than ₽9.2 billion to the St Petersburg budget. We expect Gazprom Neft’s becoming an SEZ resident to provide further stimulus in attracting a range of other related companies and suppliers to the SEZ and, ultimately, to act as a driver in developing a new industrial cluster in St Petersburg.”

“The infrastructure facilities developed for residents have evolved in line with their needs over the SEZ’s 15-year history. These include the office—laboratory complex at the Neudorf site, and the Technology Transfer Centre’s office and production facilities at the Novoorlovskaya site. Having identified the need for ready-to-use production facilities, it is precisely this kind of functional space that will now come to the fore at the Innovation Centre. This is going to be a new experience for us, and Gazprom Neft is going to be a key partner at that facility.”
