A project on Moscow’s Kapotnya industrial district has been recognised at the leading international online Webby Awards

A joint project by Gazprom Neft and the Gigarama laboratory has won the Best Use of Video or Moving Images prize at the 2021 Webby Awards, competing against participants from Denmark, Hong Kong, the USA and Canada. A special project, “Sing District!” outlined how the modernisation of an industrial facility — and its surrounding urban environment — is changing one of the local districts surrounding Russia’s capital.

The Webby Awards — the world’s most prestigious Internet awards — recognises the web’s best online content, every year. More than 13,000 works were submitted in 2021, with companies including Netflix, HBO, Marvel, Google, Spotify competing for the awards. The best projects were chosen by Internet users and a jury of digital-industry professionals.

“We set about trying to convey — emotionally — how someone living in an industrial district felt about the changes going on in front of his eyes. This interactive video maintained the geometric unity of the frame while cross-cutting on a split screen — with the geometry of the Moscow Refinery’s technological facilities being juxtaposed against views of the changing urban environment. The result exceeded our wildest expectations, and for that I should like to thank our colleagues at the Gigarama laboratory, with whom we developed the ‘Sing District!’ project.”
