William Weimer of Bonner Springs, Kansas has claimed a top prize in the Missouri Lottery’s “Hot Hot Cash” Scratchers game. He purchased his winning ticket at G2M Super Mart, 220 N. Main St., in Laurie.
“It was just a random pick,” he explained. “I played one of those [tickets], hoping that one of those was a lucky one.”
As it turned out, the ticket Weimer purchased was as lucky as it could get –it was a $100,000 top-prize winner, as he later found out when he scratched it.
“It was one of those times where you check it five or six times to make sure it’s a true winner,” he said. “Then, of course, the first phone call is to your wife to let her know.”
Having picked the right ticket at just the right time, Weimer said he knew just how lucky he was.
“I’m usually one of those people that don’t have much luck with it,” he said. “So I felt really fortunate.”
“Hot Hot Cash” is a $5 Scratchers game with more than $6.6 million in unclaimed prizes, including another top prize of $100,000.
In the last fiscal year, Missouri Lottery players in Morgan County, where the ticket was purchased, won more than $3.4 million in prizes. Retailers in the county received more than $270,000 in commissions and bonuses, and an additional $268,000 went to educational programs in the county.
