New technological solutions are delivering further efficiency gains in aviation refuelling for Gazprom Neft

Gazpromneft-Aero, operator of the Gazprom Neft aviation refuelling business, has successfully tested a prototype for Russia’s first ever modular aviation refuelling unit. Deploying this innovative aviation refuelling vehicle will cut maintenance servicing times by 50%, optimising logistics in “wing-tip” aircraft refuelling. The module’s unique structural design means it can be quickly modified, as required, using four key elements: a hauler, a lifting platform, the refuelling module, and a tank semi-trailer.

This pilot prototype modular refuelling unit — developed by Russia’s Ruskomtrans — can be used in refuelling both wide-body airliners and regional and small aircraft. Omsk Tsentralny Airport — home to one of Gazprom Neft’s most cutting-edge aviation refuelling complexes — was chosen for pilot operational testing, with specialists verifying the performance and operational integrity of the entire vehicle system, subject to various modifications, under “real-life” aircraft servicing conditions. More than 50 scheduled flights have already been refuelled using this modular system.

“Integrating new solutions is an important element in the technological development of Gazprom Neft’s aviation business. Together with our partners we were the first in Russia to develop and test a modular aviation refuelling vehicle — unique to the domestic aviation industry — which has demonstrated its high efficiency, right on the airport apron. This first vehicle will remain in operation in Omsk, where we are developing advanced ‘wing-tip’ aviation refuelling infrastructure. The next stage in implementing this project will be producing similar vehicles for use at other Russian airports.”
