Governor Newsom Statement on Death of Tulare County Sheriff’s Deputy 1.28.21

SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom today issued the following statement regarding the COVID-19-related death of Tulare County Sheriff’s Deputy Francisco (Frank) Holguin III:

“Jennifer and I were heartbroken to learn that this virus has claimed the life of yet another one of California’s brave law enforcement officers on the front lines. Our thoughts and prayers are with Deputy Holguin’s family, friends and the Central Valley community.”

Deputy Holguin, 56, passed away on Wednesday, January 27, due to complications from COVID-19. His career with the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office spanned more than 20 years, with his most recent assignment at the Tulare County Juvenile Court.

Deputy Holguin is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Serrena; son, Francisco (Frank) IV; and granddaughter, Rose.

In honor of Deputy Holguin, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
