The North Dakota Department of Commerce announces increased funding for Main Street development. This funding is provided by federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) dollars focusing on long-term community development within cities’ downtown areas.
Governor Doug Burgum has led the state’s efforts to provide community leaders a direct access point to resources needed to create healthy, vibrant communities poised to attract and retain a 21st-century workforce. “The CDBG Main Street Program is key to addressing unmet needs, building livable communities and enhancing local economic development efforts,” Burgum said.
Funding opportunities have been expanded since the CDBG Main Street Programs inception in December of 2018. Funds are now made available for the following categories:
Façade improvements including signage, painting, awnings, windows, doors, entryways, etc.
Streetscapes including street lighting, landscaping, parking, sculptures, pools of water and fountains, etc.
Code enforcement improvements to non-residential buildings
Renovation of abandoned buildings to serve another public purpose
Energy system improvements or retrofitting
Execution of architectural design features to enhance or preserve aesthetic qualities
