The grants will help the East Central Alabama Traffic Safety Office fund law enforcement participation in national enforcement and awareness campaigns such as “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” along with localized enforcement based on “hot spots” where crashes often occur. The office serves Blount, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Elmore, Etowah, Jefferson, Lee, Macon, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair, Talladega and Tallapoosa counties. The city of Opelika is the fiscal agent for the office.

“These grants help put more officers on patrol during busy travel periods to keep people safe by removing dangerous drivers from Alabama roadways and enforcing traffic laws,” Ivey said. “I am pleased to support our law enforcement agencies as they protect and serve their communities.”

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants from funds made available by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
