Gov. Ivey awards grant to create new jobs in Winston County

MONTGOMERY— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $400,000 grant to breathe new life into an industrial building and create 150 new jobs in Double Springs.

The Community Development Block Grant funds awarded by Ivey will be used to rehabilitate the town-owned manufacturing plant enabling Winston Home Buildings to move in and begin producing manufactured homes.

“Jobs continue to be a priority of my administration, and I am delighted to see new employment opportunities in Double Springs,” Ivey said. “I commend local elected officials and business leaders for working together to make this venture a reality, and I am pleased to support this project.”

The city will use the funds to rehabilitate a 67,000-square-foot building in the Double Springs Industrial Park. The building was constructed in the 1970s and was in use until 2013 when Southern Energy Homes moved to another location in the county.

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

“Governor Ivey is committed to bringing new jobs to Alabama and helping the state grow and prosper,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA is pleased to join Governor Ivey as a partner in this project that will mean new jobs for Double Springs and Winston County.”

ADECA administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation development.
