The grant to the Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama will help provide services that include safety planning, counseling, court advocacy and case management.

"Domestic violence is a horrible crime that knows no boundaries," Ivey said. "I commend the staff of this organization for the work they do in providing assistance and resources to those affected by these crimes."

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice. ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, victim services, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation.

“Gov. Ivey understands the importance of ensuring that help is available to victims of these terrible crimes, and ADECA stands with her in commending this organization's work in helping victims,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.

Along with grants, nonprofit organizations rely on local, private donations to ensure their services remain available to victims.

Ivey notified Meredith Calhoun, chair of the organization’s board, that the grant had been approved.
