Gov. Ivey awards grant to Moody Police Department for equipment
MONTGOMERY – Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $22,955 grant to the Moody Police Department to upgrade equipment and help officers better perform their duties.
“Our officers do an excellent job of enforcing our laws in Alabama,” Ivey said. “I am pleased to provide these funds to help the Moody Police Department fulfill their needs.”
The police department will use funds to purchase an analyzing device. The hand-held analyzer can identify 450 illegal drugs, including heroin and methamphetamine, and enables officers to quickly and easily obtain results.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Justice Department. ADECA has awarded numerous grants to law enforcement agencies across Alabama to purchase equipment that those local agencies deem essential to their needs.
“ADECA is proud to join with Gov. Ivey in helping police officers do their jobs more efficiently, effectively and safely,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said.
ADECA administers an array of programs supporting law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, water resource management and recreation development.
