MONTGOMERY— Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $339,281 grant to support a nonprofit organization that assists domestic violence victims in northwest Alabama.

The Family Resource Center of Northwest Alabama is using the funds for its Daybreak program which provides a 24-hour crisis line, temporary emergency shelter, court advocacy, case management, safety planning, referral to other assistance agencies, peer support, financial assistance and other direct services for victims. The organization assists victims in Walker, Tuscaloosa, Marion, Jefferson, Fayette, Cullman, Blount and Winston counties. 

“Domestic violence victims deserve easy access to the professional services they need to start recovering and seeking justice,” Ivey said. “I commend the staff and volunteers of The Family Resource Center of Northwest Alabama for working each day to ensure that victims get the care they need.”

The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state by the U.S. Justice Department. Local matching funds of $84,820 will supplement the grant.

ADECA administers an array of programs that support law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, workforce development, water resources and recreation development.

“ADECA shares Gov. Ivey’s commitment to helping victims of domestic violence gain access to professional care and assistance,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “The partnership with the Family Resource Center of Northwest Alabama is an integral part of making life better for those who have been victimized in these counties.”

Ivey notified Allison Jones, Family Resource Center of Northwest Alabama board president, that the grant had been approved.
