Gov. Ivey awards grant to help former inmates find employment
MONTGOMERY — Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded a $99,546 grant to help inmates find gainful employment once released from prison.
J.F. Ingram State Technical College in Deatsville will use funds to seek and establish a database of employers who are willing to provide employment opportunities for inmates who have been released from prison and have successfully completed vocational training at the school.
“A proven way to reduce inmate population is to make sure that those inmates who have been released go on to productive lives and do not return to prison,” Gov. Ivey said. “Through this program, J.F. Ingram Technical State Technical College is giving former inmates a chance at success while helping employers meet their workforce needs.”
Established by the Legislature in 1965, J.F. Ingram State Technical College provides training for inmates in a number of highly-demanding vocations including welding, automotive mechanics, plumbing, carpentry and more.
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grant from funds made available to the state from the U.S. Department of Justice.ADECA administers a wide range of programs that support law enforcement, victim programs, economic development, water resource management, energy conservation and recreation.
